PFAS-FREE APPAREL PLEDGE
Sign the Pledge for pfas-free apparel
PFAS (per and poly fluorinated alkyl substances) are a family of more than 9,000 chemicals that pollute the drinking water of approximately 200 million Americans and have been found as far away as Mount Everest and the Arctic.
Despite their threat to our people and planet, PFAS continues to be used widely in the apparel industry. This class of chemicals are largely used as coatings or in membranes to make products waterproof, dirt-resistant and breathable. This use in apparel creates pollution throughout the supply chain – from the manufacture of the chemicals and the products, to their use by consumers, to their disposal.
Fashion FWD and NRDC’s PFAS-Free Apparel Pledge recognizes that consumers are a powerful lever to drive PFAS elimination, which is why this pledge provides the necessary steps to drive informed change. We also encourage retailers and manufacturers to sign the pledge to show their support and commitment towards safer chemical standards for their companies.
